Love Moments From the Community

Inspired by David Graham’s poem “The News of Love”, we sent out a call earlier this month for “love moments” to celebrate the ripples of love that warm our hearts and keep us connected. Here are 7 community voices that shared their “love moments”.

THE NEWS OF LOVE

By David Graham

How old the News of Love must be …

-Emily Dickinson

The squirrel on our maple flicks

its tail, our dog at his window

watching steadily.

Love is steady, too, and sturdy,

like a thousand year old tree-

they built the house around it.

But dumb love's fun, too,

like the baby laughing nonstop

whenever you rip some paper.

You feel love more than see it,

like the wind on your face.

But don't take my word for it.

Look instead at shoreline pines,

how they all lean one direction,

even when there's no wind.

Last evening my friend Jory and I made a bunch of rainbow hearts that will be winging their way to the Randolph GSA today.

Took a snapshot of my little far flung community of faces [on the Wellness Call], who even when I can’t make the time zone are all out there, over the ocean, in a bubble of love chatting away and sharing wisdom and whimsy….

Even when I can’t make it… I always clock 5pm here knowing you’re all over there zooming …. The cluster of faces that make this ‘lone welsh wolf from the um’ feel so loved and welcomed.

Thank you for hosting and especially for having me

Daisy

Wild blueberries I picked for my mother's birthday (her favourite treat) from the land which I no longer mow and has begun to welcome these delicious treats.

With gratitude,

Tarah

I am thinking of mundane love. The kind that comes from folding sheets and making sure the coffee is made for tomorrow morning. The kind that comes from cards, texts and phone calls just to tell another person they matter and you love them. The kind that comes from filling out financial aid forms and picking up a prescription. From watching Jeopardy together and sharing memes in a group chat. A forwarded email that says, I think you might like this and admitting out loud, it's been a hard day. It is the sweetest, most boring mundane moments that sometimes are everything and nothing all at once.

Love can be very complex. But, when I look at some of these photos, it seems so simple.

Much Love

I haven’t written a poem in decades, but here is something I was moved to create, based on something that’s going on in my life currently. Thanks for the invitation to think about love and to be courageous!

Paying It Forward

She needed,

I heeded.

Paying it forward

As our mothers would have it.

Love abounds though both are gone.

Still savoring the magic of a perfect fall day with my little love, and the moments where we’re both wrapped up in the awe and wonder of it all. This is my son's first fall and being able to revel in the joy and grace of it all has my heart so full.
